Do you ever wonder what goes on in other people’s minds? Well, I do all the time!!

I think it comes from years of staring at people’s heads I often find myself wondering what’s going on in there! I’m going to let you into my mind for a bit! What goes on in there is hair! I eat, sleep and breath hair. Most of the hair information in my brain is required to carry out my job thoroughly, safely and make the best decision as to what’s required to fulfil my clients wishes and help them solve their problem, whether that’s hair loss, scalp issues, finding the perfect product combination to help them achieve their dream hair at home or trying to achieve the sometimes-impossible colour result. So, most of the hair knowledge that I have learned and stored over my 25years behind the chair is vital but some of it is useless information!!!

So, I would like to share with you some of this useless information that you can store in case you ever find yourself in a situation where perhaps knowing this could end up in you winning that table quiz in your local parish centre and you can take home the first prize of a cheap chocolate Santa! So, I have compiled 40 of the most useless hair facts I have stored in my mind! 

  • Blondes have more hairs on their heads than all other colours! They top the charts with 150,000 strands; brunettes have 100,000 strands, and redheads average about 90,000 strands. 
  • Many shop-bought hair colours contain metallic salts that build up on the hair shaft. They can cause breakage or severe discoloration if later coloured by a professional hairstylist. 
  • Humans have the same amount of hair follicles as a chimpanzee. 
  • The scientific term for split ends is Trichoptilosis. 
  • Human hair appears to  grow after death due to dehydration and the shrinking of the skin. 
  • Less than 2% of the world’s population has naturally red hair. 
  • A lock of Elvis’ hair once sold at an auction for $15,000. 
  • Hair contains information about everything that has been in your bloodstream, such as medicine, drugs, minerals, and vitamins. 
  • In 1950, only 5% of women dyed their hair. Now, that number has increased to 75%! 
  • A strand of hair is stronger than a copper wire of equivalent diameter. 
  • The only part of hair that is not dead is within the scalp.

  • The only way to get rid of split ends is to cut them off. There is no way to repair them completely.
